The NMEA 2000 Battery Monitor YDBM-02 from Yacht Devices reports measured voltage and current, calculated battery health and state of charge (SoC) to the NMEA 2000 network.
The NMEA 2000 Battery Monitor YDBM-02 can be used with any single DC source. For example, alternator, wind generator, solar panels, or with loads like windlasses, refrigerators etc, however it is primarily designed for monitoring a battery.
To provide this functionality an appropriate external shunt (not supplied) is required. These can be in the range of 5A to 2500A. With the additional input from a Yacht Devices Thermometer connected to the battery it can detect charge state and health more accurately and report temperature as well as voltage and current data.
Using the built in microSD card slot allows you to easily configure the device and update its firmware. The minimum amount of programming should include the voltage drop of the shunt used and maximum current of the connected shunt. Additionally battery parameters like nominal capacity, voltage and chemistry can be programmed. Programming of the Battery Monitor can also be done over NMEA 2000 via installation descriptions using a PC gateway and software like the free CAN Log Viewer.
Unlike the previous model YDBM-01, the YDBM-02 model has an extra wire and can be used with a shunt connected to either the positive or negative battery terminal.
The Battery Monitor can be configured to manage channels of an NMEA 2000 digital switching system, and/or trigger a digital alarm unit compatible with standard NMEA 2000 PGNs 127501/127502. For example, you can configure the Battery Monitor to automatically raise a sound or voice alert about low battery charge with the Alarm Button, or to turn some equipment on or off, or to start a genset to recharge the battery with the Circuit Control.
