Why do I need a NMEA-0183 Gateway?

  • To allow continued use of legacy NMEA-0183 equipment during an upgrade path to NMEA 2000
  • Using an older autopilot which only supports NMEA-0183 and have upgraded the chart plotter which no longer has NMEA-0183 support
  • Connect an older AIS with only NMEA-0183 to a NMEA 2000 network
