J1939 Engine Gateway YDEG-04

Yacht Devices Engine Gateway YDEG-04

The Engine Gateway from Yacht Devices is able to connect most newer engines using the J1939 protocol to a NMEA 2000 marine network.

The engine gateway allows the display of engine parameters including revolutions (RPM), Temperature, hours, fuel rate and other data on a chart plotter connected to a NMEA 2000 network.

We are collating a list of some of the engines we have supplied gateways for that are confirmed working along with details on adaptor cables (if required). Confirmed working engines

If programming of the engine gateway is required we will do this free of charge prior to shipping to ensure your installation is plug and play.

Why do I need an engine gateway?

  • Replace broken instruments
  • If using a Wi-Fi Gateway in conjunction with the gateway you can view engine data on iPad, tablets and mobile devices.
  • Record your engine data for service and maintenance review.
  • Engine network setup and troubleshooting

Engine Data available

The engine parameters you may see are dependent on the engine controller and how many sensors are connected. Older chart plotters may not support display of all data types.

  • RPM (engine revolutions)
  • Total engine hours
  • Coolant temperature
  • Battery voltage and current
  • Alternator potential and current
  • Engine and transmission warnings and alarms
  • Coolant pressure
  • Boost pressure
  • Engine oil pressure
  • Engine oil temperature
  • Fuel tank level and tank capacity
  • Fuel rate
  • Fuel delivery pressure
  • Percent engine load
  • Percent engine torque
  • Exhaust gas temperature
  • Transmission current gear
  • Transmission oil pressure
  • Transmission oil temperature
  • Multisensor data (EVC-A engines)
  • Engine tilt/trim
  • Intake manifold temperature

New to NMEA 2000?

If you are new to NMEA 2000 don’t worry. We have all the knowledge required to assist you with getting the Engine Gateway connected including if you don’t have an existing NMEA 2000 network we can supply a NMEA 2000 Starter Kit

Connection to the engine

For boats with Volvo Penta engines, you simply plug the device into a free socket on the NMEA 2000 network backbone and connect to a Multilink hub or, using the built-in Y-connector connect it in series with any of the EVC tachometers. You can purchase adapter cables from here

For other engines (please see section IV of manual for details) an adaptor cable is required.

Available adaptors:

  • EVC/Vodia 8-pin adaptor cable
  • EVC-A multisensor adaptor cable
  • EVC-A MC 12-pin C5:ENGINE cable
  • EVC-A EC 12-pin X5:MULTILINK cable
  • EFI 10-pin adaptor cable
  • Caterpillar Display 12-pin cable
  • Caterpillar Round 9-pin adaptor (C7, C9, C12, C18, C32)
  • Cummins Round 9-pin adaptor (QSL9, QSM11, QSX15, QSK 19/45/60)
  • Yanmar 4JH adaptor cable
  • Yanmar B25/C35 Control Panel adaptor cable
  • SmartCraft 10-pin adaptor (Mercury, MerCruiser)
